The Miseducation

With Lauryn Hill and Nas rocking The Congress tonight, a nineties outfit is needed. The camo might be more Fugees than Miseducation, but the big earrings and swinging necklace is all Lauryn. Don't forget, the floor at The Congress slants toward the stage so flats are a must.

Apocalypse Now

Apocalypse Now

With the results of the recent election, at least half of this country is convinced the world is going to end.
Hurricane Sandy, along with the other extreme weather of recent years, has people convinced the global warming will be our demise - and soon.
The Mayans were either sure the world would end this December, or they ran out of room on the stone they were carving.
Supposedly, the CDC posted a tips on how to survive a zombie plague.

Moral of the story? If the world ends, you better look good while it happens - and be prepared for the inevitable post-apocalyptic lifestyle.

You'll be pockets for storing berries and grenades. Layers for the weather going from 100 degrees to 5 degrees in a single day. A leather belt for keeping your pants up - and for climbing things. Good shoes for obvious reasons. A messenger bag for your gas mask, compass and stale bread.

As the Boy Scouts say, Always.Be.Prepared.

#whattowear by katharine-anne featuring aldo

Wondering what to rock at Friday's Indie-Pendent & Stic-of-the-Week's Hank & Cupcake's show at Schubas? Think obnoxious prints and brightly colored accessories. I would recommend a thick heel/wedge, because there.will.be.dancing.

Instagrabbed

Spotted on my Instragram this week was Art Director, Jackie's rockin' patterned jeans. This Brooklyn resident wore hers with camel slouchy boots. (pairing black with browns is an easy way to look chic).

Below is another way of wearing these complicated pants. I say keep the rest of it simple - a black top with a black denim motorcycle jacket will keep you comfortable outside during smoke breaks or inside, elbowing for room at the bar. The orange boots make the whole thing more playful and less Mad Max. They're also a nod to this month's inherent spookiness (I couldn't resist).

Don't be intimidated by patterned bottoms, as long as you wear solids with 'em, you won't feel ridiculous. If you're adventurous, then follow Malia Obama's lead and mix patterns and layers as much as you please.
