Tis' the season to transition

It would seem as though that the Chicago girl is constantly on edge with how to dress for the weather. One day the sun will blaze and shorts and a skinny tank will feel like a slimy skin, while the next will feel as though winter is right around the corner. Finally it appears that sanctuary is not too far off. Indeed, fall is right around the corner, but with it the ultimate question of how to dress for this transitory season.

The key is balance -pairing a lighter top with a heavier bottom or vice versa. In this pre-autumn it's common for a warm day with a cool breezy night, so it's best to find outfits that will keep you chic and weather ready. Be prepared for both with perfect cut-offs and a light sweater or loose, baggy jeans with your favorite button down. As for trends, my vote is to stick with what you loved from summer and what you're looking forward to in fall. Easy, nautical styles from summer blended with the mixed prints and boldness that are approaching us in the upcoming seasons. I suggest playing with a simple color palette and adding a punch with a red lip and a printed shoe.

I chose these specific pieces for the fact that they can mix and match depending on the weather in this fickle pre-season: the black and white prints are a classic in any closet, denim is always a must and  a simple ankle bootie is both flattering and multi-seasonal.

This fall don't be afraid to mix your leopards and stripes and dots and lips. They all come together to form a fashion party like no other. In fact, if you so choose, put the striped sweater over the blouse for a preppy look with a punch. The boyfriend jeans and animalistic flats will add a punch and you'll find yourself ready to take on autumn like never before while still embracing the final weeks of summer in style.
