New Villager. When I listen to this group, I somehow manage to think of the band transcendentally floating above, and absorbing the massive amount of pop and r&b influences they have encountered over their lifespans. Then taking this mass of knowledge, and creating a sound of wholeness, and understanding. It is the kind of music that catches you off guard, not because you haven't heard the sounds, or chords before, but because you have never heard them combined in such a unique style. Their single "Rich Doors" works in a similar way; you can hear the r&b groove, the pop synth, the chiming violin excerpts, all of which combine for a magical moment of bliss, and strutting happiness that in a way is unexpected. This unexpected-ness however, does not keep you from recognizing that it is the perfect thing listen to to bring out the sun on a cloudy, gloomy day. The rest of New Villager's album follows suit, and takes you away with traveling melodies that transport you to a place where you can see and be one with the ties that unite pop and r&b (and everything in between)!!
