The Muse Winner La Tonya Williams and her design
Last week, I was honored to attend The Muse event held at Wicker Park’s trendy lounge, Debonair Social Club. The event was to honoring student’s fashion design from the International Academy of Design (IADT). The Models and coordination sponsored by Factor Women Model Management, magazine coverage and publication sponsored by Moda FG.
The evening started with a cocktail party leading into an informal fashion show displaying the student’s top design. The winner La Tonya Williams, not always being in fashion industry started off being in IT; she decided to leave her job and came back to Chicago to pursue school and receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts from IADT. Second place winner Belle Kim, always remembered loving fashion; she said she would always watch her mother sewing on the machine. Third place winner, Ariana Magana, says she pulls her looks from Asian culture, all though she has never been there, she says that the clothing has always inspired her. Fourth place winner, April, says she has showed an interest in fashion since she was five and would design clothing for family and friends dolls. Fifth up is Janine Garcia, along with her passion for animals, music, recycling, hanging out with family and friends; she has a passion for fashion, which showed in her design.
The five designer finalists shot with photographer, Michael Dar and the pictures were featured in Moda FG. The students also worked with make up artists by Timothy Priano. The top winners were chosen by attendees of Image and received monetary scholar ships provided by fashion designer Tennille White an IADT Chicago alumnus.
