When you first hear JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound’s, Beat of Our Own Drum, you feel as though you have been sent back to the Motown era. Then you listen a little closer and realize it has this delightful twist of modern day R&B and soul. The CD starts off with the “Baltimore is the New Brooklyn,” which happens to be the track that caught my attention the most. You just want to snap your fingers and rock your head back and forth. At 35 minutes, the ten-track CD goes by quickly and you just want to put in on repeat and listen to it all over again. For those of you missing the Motown in your life, or even want to hear a new take on it, be sure to check out JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound. Their new single, “Get it Together” b/w a cover of Wilco’s “I am Trying to Break Your Heart” comes out on March 2nd.
